In June 2019, several PhD candidates of the Aquaculture and Fisheries group (AFI) of Wageningen University participated in a two weeks Knowledge Exchange Program in China. The Dutch Aquaculture Experts sponsored and supported the PhD students in their mission to exchange knowledge and tighten the relationships with Chinese counterparts.
Together with AFI’s professor Geert Wiegertjes, the 10 international students visited top-notch research institutes in Qingdao and Shanghai areas and paid field visits to fish farms, ports and fish markets. Conferences were organized in both cities, where the students could present their research and exchange views on important topics such as developments in sustainable fish farming, advances in fish nutrition, fisheries policy etcetera.
The group of WUR students reported almost on a daily basis via several video’s showcasing their activities. The Dutch Aquaculture Experts are pleased to see that the group has brought back new knowledge, a bigger network and new prospects of collaboration with Chinese counterparts.
To use an industry-related term, it was a good yield.
